Is Your Business Outgrowing ABSS?
ABSS (formerly MYOB) is legendary. It has served Singaporean SMEs well for decades. But as your transaction volume grows, you might be seeing the "cracks":
The dreaded "Termination Code" errors.
Slow performance when multiple users log in.
A database that needs constant "Optimisation" just to stay alive.
If you are upgrading to SQL Account, you are moving to a more robust, stable environment. But the big question is: "What happens to my data?"
At Apscom Solutions, we have migrated hundreds of companies from ABSS to SQL Account. We follow a strict "Safety First" protocol. Here is the checklist you need to ensure a smooth switch.
Phase 1: The "Cut-Off" Preparation
Before you even install SQL Account, you need to prepare your ABSS file. Clean Up the Accounts: Ensure your Bank Reconciliation is up to date. Check for "Zombie" Items: Deactivate old stock items or customers you haven't traded with in 5 years. (Don't bring junk into your new house!). Pick a "Cut-Off Date": The best time is usually a Month-End or Year-End. (e.g., 31st Dec). * Print the "Master" Reports: Generate a Trial Balance, Balance Sheet, and Aged Receivables/Payables as of your Cut-Off Date. You will need these to prove the new system is accurate.
Phase 2: The Master Data Migration (The Easy Part)
We don't type this manually. We use migration tools. Chart of Accounts: We map your ABSS account codes to SQL Account’s format. Customer & Supplier List: Names, addresses, terms, and tax codes are imported in bulk. Stock Items: Item codes, descriptions, and current Opening Balances (Quantity & Value) are transferred.
Phase 3: The "Parallel Run" (Optional but Recommended)
After keying Opening Balance and for extra peace of mind, some companies run both systems for 2-4 weeks.
Enter in Both: Key new invoices into both ABSS and SQL.
Compare Reports: At the end of the week, print the P&L from both. Do they match?
Go Live: Once you are confident, stop using ABSS and go full speed on SQL.
Phase 5: The "Go Live" Sign-Off
You are ready. The final check: Does the Total Debtors figure in SQL match the final ABSS report? Does the Bank Balance match? Are your Stock Values identical?
Why You Shouldn't Do This Alone
Migration looks simple on paper, but the "mapping" of Tax Codes and Linked Accounts can be tricky. One wrong setting can mess up your GST submission.
Apscom Solutions specializes in ABSS-to-SQL Migrations. We don't just sell you the software; we handle the data conversion and the training.
