Profit Centers: Is One "Bad Apple" Branch Killing Your Cash Flow?

The "Overall Profit" Trap
You look at your monthly Profit & Loss (P&L) statement.
Total Revenue: $500,000
Total Net Profit: $50,000
You smile. The company is making money. Everyone gets a bonus. But what if I told you that Branch A made $100,000 profit, while Branch B lost $50,000?
In a standard P&L, these two numbers cancel each other out. You see the "Net $50k" and assume everything is fine. Meanwhile, Branch B continues to bleed cash, unnoticed, month after month.
At Apscom Solutions, we help multi-outlet businesses stop flying blind. The solution is simple: Departmental Accounting (Project Tracking) in SQL Account.
Stop Mixing Your Money
You don't need separate accounting software for every branch. You just need to stop throwing all your expenses into one big "General Admin" pot.
In SQL Account, you have a powerful feature called "Project" (sometimes used as "Department" or "Cost Centre"). This allows you to tag every single transaction to a specific outlet.
How It Works (The 3-Step Setup)
Step 1: Create Your "Profit Centers"
Go to Tools > Maintain Project.
Create a code for each outlet:
HQ (Headquarters)
BR-01 (Jurong Outlet)
BR-02 (Tampines Outlet)
Step 2: Tag Every Transaction Now, whenever your admin keys in an invoice or expense:
Sales Invoice: Select BR-01 if the sale happened at Jurong.
Payment Voucher: Select BR-02 if you are paying the electricity bill for Tampines.
Journal Entry: Tag salaries to their respective branches.
Step 3: The "Magic" Report At the end of the month, don't just print the standard P&L.
Go to Reports > General Ledger > Profit & Loss Statement.
Look for the "Project" Filter (or "Project Comparison" format).
Select Comparison by Project.
The Result: Instant Clarity
Suddenly, your one P&L becomes three columns side-by-side:
HQ: ($10k) - Expected overhead.
Jurong: +$80k - Star performer!
Tampines: ($20k) - Wait, why is their electricity bill double Jurong's?
Now you aren't guessing. You can see exactly which manager is controlling costs and which outlet needs immediate intervention.
Take Control of Your Empire
If you have more than one location, you cannot afford to look at "Company-Wide" figures alone. You need granular visibility.
Is your SQL Account set up for this yet?
